Ditch the Sugar

As I’ve found, not just with myself, but with many of my clients, going sugar-free can have a truly life-changing impact on all aspects of health.

Sugar is not kind to our bodies! It upsets our hormonal system, zaps our energy, feeds inflammation, and is very addictive!

Many of us know about the obvious sugar-laden culprits like sweets, chocolate, biscuits, soft drinks, etc and lots of us rely on that sugar fix to get us through the afternoon slump or as a treat after a hard day.

But even if you don’t intentionally have much sugar in your diet there are hidden sugars in almost all processed foods including cereals, fruit yogurts, soups, sauces, and ready-meals.

Getting into the habit of checking food labels for the sugar content can help you to avoid these sugary foods and decrease your intake. As a general rule, a food that is low in sugar has less than 5g per 100g. But you can also work out how many teaspoons of sugar are in that food by dividing the total amount of sugar per portion by 4g (this is the weight of a teaspoon of sugar). Some foods will totally surprise you!

The best way to avoid sugar is cooking food from scratch as much as possible instead of relying on processed foods. This will ensure you don’t eat any hidden, refined sugars, which is a winner for your overall health.
